The newest place in town to go apple picking is Liberty Apple Orchard, located at 8308 Kuhn Station Road in Edwardsville, IL, just two miles east of the Meyer YMCA. Mills Apple Farm is located at 11477 Pocahontas Road in Marine, IL. They are open from mid-July until noon on Christmas Eve Tuesday-Sunday. They are closed on Mondays. They have a variety of activities including hayrides, wagon rides, and train rides. They also have educational apple and pumpkin tours. Eckert’s in Millstadt, IL opens for the season on September 9. It is open seasonally mainly in September and October for apple and pumpkin picking season. If you can’t wait, you can visit their year-round farm in Belleville, IL. In the Millstadt location, they have a 10-acre corn maze shaped like a firebird, the Jack-O-Lobber that fires pumpkins in the air up to half a mile, pig races, a 70-foot underground Mineshaft slide, carnival rides, the Fort Eckert playground and much more! You will also want to visit the country store and the food stands that are scattered throughout the farm. For great pumpkin fun visit Relleke Pumpkin Patch, located at 473 Sand Prairie Road in Granite City, IL, just one mile north of Cahokia Mound State Park. During the fall festival at the farm in October you will find activities like the Jungle Maze, Corn Maze, Krazy Korn Palace, Spider Town, Pyramid Slide, Camel Rides, Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Face Painting, the Spin the Pumpkin Ride, the Haunted Barn, and so much more. You can spend the day with your family enjoying picking pumpkins, eating great food, and having good country fun down on the farm. If you are up for a drive into St. Louis, there are a couple of options to check out there as well.
Thies Farm and Greenhouses on North Hanley and in Maryland Heights are both accessible from major highways. During the entire Month of October the farms are turned into “Pumpkinland”. Pumpkinland is open Tuesday-Sunday during the month of October. General admission includes access to the play area, petting zoo, corn maze, and wagon ride. Concessions, pumpkin decorating, face painting and pony rides are available on weekends only for an extra charge. You can purchase pumpkins of all sizes, shapes, and colors beginning in September. At Rombachs Farm in Chesterfield, MO they offer several activities for all ages including pumpkin picking, hay rides, the Great Pumpkin Pyramid, face painting, pony rides, and BBQ.
